M-Net apologises for an Offensive episode of Our Perfect Wedding

Cape Town – M-Net’s Mzansi Magic (DStv 161) and the production company, Connect TV apologised for broadcasting the shocking Sunday episode of Our Perfect Wedding featuring a groom who confessed how he targeted children for sex, saying the content “was clearly offensive and wrong”.

A massive viewer furore followed the broadcast of the Our Perfect Wedding episode on Mzansi Magic (DStv 161) on Sunday, leading to Absa abruptly pulling out as sponsor of the show as well as complaints to and an investigation by the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa (BCCSA).

Viewers slammed the show as “a disgusting shame” for romanticising “rape culture as entertainment”.
While the Sexual Offences Act has defined that it is no longer a criminal act for children between the ages of 12 and 15 to engage in sexual activity with each other, it is still completely illegal and repugnant for an adult to prey on a 14 year-old. In this case a 28 year-old man who proudly brags about sexing underage school children.
“Mzansi Magic and its production company, Connect TV, wish to apologise for airing the episode of Our Perfect Wedding that was broadcast on 29 November,” M-Net, that supplies channels like Mzansi Magic to MultiChoice’s DStv satellite pay-TV platform, said in a statement on Tuesday afternoon.

“While we strive to produce quality, compelling content for our viewers, we realise more should have been done in the production and airing of this particular episode as its subject matter is clearly offensive and wrong.
“While the airing of our programmes does not mean we condone the behaviour included in them, we are reviewing our processes to ensure that this type of content is not a part of our programming schedule in the future”.

SAMRO increases death benefit

We’ve seen it too often in Mzansi many artists die penniless leaving family members distraught over funeral arrangements.
Hot off the press is the Southern African Music Rights Organisation’s (Samro) recent announcement about the increase in funeral cover benefits for its members. The benefit has gone up a whopping 100 %.
“The funeral cover for members has been increased from R10 000 to R20 000,” says Samro’s CEO Sipho Dlamini.
The late Soul Brothers singer David Masondo was also a Samro member whose family benefited from this offering.
“When our father died, Samro assisted us through its funeral benefit scheme to bury our father, says his son Sphamandla Masondo. “It was such a relief for everyone in the family when Samro called us and informed us of this benefit,” he adds.
Samro is the leading music copyright administration company on the continent.
And with the new pumped up benefit, we hope to see more South African artists getting dignified send-offs.

Whats really cooking between Bonang and AKA??

A great cloud of speculation keeps growing week-in-week-out surrounding a possible relationship between "multi-award winning" hip-hop mogul AKA and the “Queen” of SA entertainment, Bonang Matheba.

In as much as some people dislike the notion that Bonang might have been the reason of AKA and DJ Zinhle's break up, some love the idea of AKA and Bonang being “Africa’s power couple”.

Bonang allegedly shot down the rumors in a tweet the morning the rumours broke out.

Then it was AKA’s to address the same rumours accusing the media of “fabricating lies” and trying to capitalize on their breakup. In the 10 September issue of DRUM it was reported in-depth about the AKA and DJ Zinhle love story, lobola and affair rumours with Bonang. While spring is still trying to decide if it’s still winter or not, fans have taken it upon themselves to be citizen journalists where this supposed love triangle is concerned.
